Headteacher appraisal is one of the key statutory roles for governing bodies. As schools have become more autonomous, it is essential that headteacher performance is being monitored and the headteacher is being given the opportunity to develop.
There will be a recorded PowerPoint to watch and some background reading prior to the session (max one hour total). It will be a prerequisite for participants to have this basic knowledge of the HT Appraisal process so the time on MS Teams can be spent discussing any queries that will have arisen. Appraisals will need to be approached differently due to the COVID-19 situation, so this will be explored during the session.
Those who attended this training last year are still welcome to attend, as there will be quite different issues to discuss this time, but you won’t need to spend so long on the pre-reading as the appraisal process is still the same.
The session will explore key policies and documents to support you in HT Appraisal (particularly the Brighton & Hove model policy), roles and responsibilities, support from the External Adviser, challenges for governors, how to complete a robust Review and Planning Statement, the pay recommendation, objective setting and proformas to support the process.
