The DfE Governors’ Handbook, revised January 2015, states that governing bodies should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions: a. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; b. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and c. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Our induction programme focuses on these areas so that governors will be confident to carry out their main roles and responsibilities effectively. This programme is also useful for new clerks so they are able to advise their governing bodies on effective governance. We recommend that governors carry out a school induction first and attend at least one full governing body meeting. This helps put the contents of this programme into some context

For courses in our Governor Support Training Programme, there will be no charge for cancelling your place at a course. However, it is still important to let us know, as it has an impact on refreshment charges, training materials and the trainer may also have to adapt their delivery.
