Newly Qualified Teachers' Induction Service 2019-20

Image representing the service provider: NQT avatar -Aug 16 (01-09-2016_1600)

This service acts as an appropriate body to support schools to effectively carry out induction for newly qualified teachers (NQTs).

Outline of provision

NQTs must be registered with an appropriate body in order to carry out the induction year.  The appropriate body is responsible for the monitoring and quality assurance of induction, as outlined in the DfE’s ‘Induction for newly qualified teachers (England): Statutory guidance for appropriate bodies, head teachers, school staff and governing bodies.'

Who can purchase

This service is available to maintained schools, academies, free schools, colleges and independent schools.  Some posts and educational establishments are not suitable for induction but the appropriate body can provide advice on this.

What is the cost structure?

For maintained schools in Brighton & Hove, there is a charge per NQT for a full assessment period (a full-time year), with a small additional charge for each subsequent NQT.  Schools are charged on a termly basis by journal transfer.  As well as the full service deliverables listed below, subscribers have access to a subsidised training programme.

For NQTs in academies, free schools, independent schools, colleges and maintained schools outside Brighton & Hove, there is a choice of the ‘full service’ or ‘statutory service’.

Additional services

School visits can be carried out for an additional cost.  For example:

  • Induction tutor training from the NQT Induction Co-ordinator – for individuals or groups
  • Quality assurance visit to review the school’s induction processes, resulting in a report that outlines how the school is fulfilling its statutory duties, with some suggested areas for development
  • Meeting between the NQT Induction Co-ordinator and induction tutor/manager and/or headteacher for NQTs experiencing difficulties, to check induction support and discuss next steps (although in most cases support can be discussed over the phone/email)
  • Individual coaching for the NQT from Brighton & Hove Inclusion Support Service, if the NQT has been identified as experiencing difficulties in classroom management

The service also offers bespoke training in school if there are more than eight participants.  Charges will be calculated per session, depending on the duration, trainer, preparation etc.

All costs are available upon request.
