Providing school leaders with safeguarding training in order to carry out their safeguarding duties effectively

Outline of provision

This service provides safeguarding training for headteachers, designated safeguarding leads (DSLs) and deputy DSLs.  This enables schools to be compliant with the DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.

This training is known as ‘single agency’ training, aimed at staff in schools.  There is also ‘multi-agency’ training available via the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB), which brings different types of professionals together.   Schools are expected to attend both single agency and multi-agency training.

Who can purchase

This service is aimed at headteachers, designated safeguarding leads and deputy DSLs.

What is the cost structure?

For Brighton & Hove maintained schools, there is an annual charge, which entitles schools to unlimited training from this programme for the year (April 2019 to March 2020).  The charge for 2019-20 is a flat rate of £90 for primary schools and £120 for secondary and special schools (to acknowledge the greater amount of Deputy DSLs).

Academies, free schools and independent schools can access the training on a ‘pay as you use’ basis.  Please contact us for the different course charges.

Additional services

For maintained schools not accessing the SLA, there is a ‘pay as you use’ charge for training events from the programme.  In 2019-20 the charge for a half-day course is £75 per booking, in line with other LA courses.  Bespoke staff sessions in school can also be arranged for an additional charge.
