This service provides safeguarding training for headteachers, designated safeguarding leads (DSLs) and deputy DSLs. This enables schools to be compliant with the DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
This training is known as ‘single agency’ training, aimed at staff in schools. There is an emphasis on the Brighton & Hove context for all our training. The expectation is that all Headteachers, DSL & Deputy DSLs undertake training on appointment. DSLs and Deputy DSLs are expected to refresh this training every two years.
In addition, DSLs and Deputy DSLs are expected to attend 'multi-agency' training run by Brighton & Hove Safeguarding Children Partnership (BHSCP), which brings different types of professionals together. It is recommended that the three-part programme 'Working Together in Child Protection' is attended on appointment (no refresher required) - this can be booked via the council's main booking portal, Learning Gateway.
This service is aimed at headteachers, designated safeguarding leads and deputy DSLs in all schools.
For Brighton & Hove maintained schools, there is an annual charge, which entitles schools to unlimited training from this programme for the year (April 2020 to March 2021). The charge for 2020-21 is a flat rate of £90 for primary schools and £120 for secondary and special schools (to acknowledge the greater amount of Deputy DSLs requiring training).
Academies, free schools and independent schools can access the training on a ‘pay as you use’ basis. Please contact us for the different course charges.
For maintained schools not accessing the SLA, there is a ‘pay as you use’ charge for training events from the programme. In 2020-21 the charge for a half-day course is £75 per booking, in line with other LA courses. Bespoke staff sessions in school can also be arranged for an additional charge.
